Brayden Sangrey, 20, was sentenced in federal court on Sept. 28 to five years and four months in prison, followed by four years of supervised release, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Sangrey pleaded guilty in May to possession with intent to distribute fentanyl.

Chief U.S. District Judge Brian M. Morris presided.

In April 2025, Sangrey was arrested in a Great Falls motel room on two outstanding state warrants by the U.S. Marshal’s Violent Offender Task Force.

During the arrest, law enforcement found $2,500 in cash, a small box with 65 grams of fentanyl, and drug paraphernalia, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office prosecuted the case.

The Great Falls Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Service conducted the investigation.

He’s currently being held in the Cascade County Adult Detention Center, where he’s been held for 192 days on the federal charge and, before that, was held for 60 days on local charges, according to Cascade County Attorney Josh Racki.

Four sentenced in federal meth trafficking case

Sangrey had two previous felony district court cases in Cascade County in 2024.

Sangrey also has a juvenile criminal history in Cascade County, dating back to a 2018 property crime. His first drug offense was in 2021, Racki told The Electric.

He pleaded guilty to a criminal possession of drugs charge and while that case was pending, he was charged with two felony counts of criminal possession of dangerous drugs, a felony count of criminal endangerment, a misdemeanor count of criminal possession of drug paraphernalia and a misdemeanor count of driving while suspended/revoked.

In that case, a Great Falls Police officer saw Sangrey operating a vehicle near 2nd Avenue South and 13th Street South.

The officer knew Sangrey had active warrants for his arrest and based on previous experience with him, believed that if he attempted a traffic stop, Sangrey would likely attempt to flee, according to court documents.

The officer followed Sangrey until he pulled into the Taco John’s on 10th Avenue South, where he pulled into a parking space with the front end near a retaining wall.

The officer pulled behind Sangrey’s vehicle and activated his lights.

A female passenger exited the front passenger side of the vehicle and stood beside it with the door opened against her back, according to court documents.

Sangrey put the vehicle in drive as the officer was exiting his patrol car, then put it in reverse and accelerated backward into the patrol car, dragging the female by the open door.

Sangrey was arrested in that incident and had a fanny pack, in which officers found more than 10 grams of methamphetamine, a single fentanyl and other drug paraphernalia, according to court documents.

His driver’s license was suspended at the time.

In those cases, Sangrey signed a plea agreement and was sentenced to two years deferred in the first case and four years with two suspended in the Taco John’s incident.

He was later arrested in June 2025 in possession of drugs and the Cascade County Attorney’s Office petitioned to revoke his deferred sentence. At that point, he was in federal custody, according to the county attorney.
