CCSO suspends landfill search for Conrad woman
The Cascade County Sheriff’s Office has suspended the landfill search for 46-year-old Alicia Wood of Conrad.
CCSO, along with a number of other agencies, have been searching the High Plains Landfill in Cascade County, a few miles north of Great Falls, since Dec. 5.
Sheriff Jesse Slaughter suspended the search on Dec. 14.
Conrad man charged with homicide in connection with missing woman, landfill search ongoing
Wood was reporting missing on Nov. 30 after her neighbor in Conrad called in a welfare check. A release from CCSO states the Wood hadn’t been seen since Nov. 22. In court documents, the neighbor told Conrad police she had last seen Wood on Nov. 25 or Nov. 26. Her son told police he’d last had contact with her on Nov. 22.
William Glenn Olson of Conrad was charged Dec. 11 in Pondera County with deliberate homicide and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence in connection with Wood’s disappearance.
Olson told investigators that he strangled Wood, put her body in a suitcase and then drove to Great Falls to dispose of the suitcase in a dumpster near West Elementary, leading to the search of the landfill.
Investigators searching landfill for potential remains of missing person
“The is not a decision we took lightly, however, we feel we have conducted a thorough search of our landfill based on the information and leads provided,” Slaughter said in a Dec. 16 release. “As I said at the beginning of our search this is just one lead in this investigation. I’m confident that the Division of Criminal Investigation will continue to follow all current and future leads.”
Slaughter said the Pondera County Sheriff’s Office and the Montana Department of Justice’s Division of Criminal Investigation will continue the investigation and search efforts and his office will assist as needed.
Slaughter thanked the agencies and volunteers who helped during the landfill search and the local businesses and supporters who provided meals.
