Investigators searching landfill for potential remains of missing person
Multiple law enforcement agencies are searching for Alicia Wood, 46, of Conrad and a lead has them searching the High Plains Landfill in Cascade County for remains.
Sheriff Jesse Slaughter said on Dec. 4 that investigators have information to believe that Wood is deceased and her remains are in the landfill, but she remains a missing person as they investigate the lead.
Slaughter said that in Nov. 30, the Conrad Police Department took a report of a missing person, Wood, from Conrad.
The reporting party said Wood was last seen on Nov. 22 and her vehicle was a black 2005 Cadillac.

Slaughter said that the Montana Highway Patrol found her vehicle on Nov. 27 on Highway 91 between Brady and Conrad and impounded the vehicle.
MHP notified Conrad police about the vehicle and on Dec. 2, investigators went to the impound lot and observed blood in and around the vehicle.
Based on that evidence, Conrad police requested assistance from the Montana Department of Justice’s Division of Criminal Investigation.

Slaughter said there is a person of interest in the case who was in custody on an unrelated charge and is being held in the Pondera County Jail.
He said they were notifying the public of the investigation as the police activity at the landfill may be noticeable.
Investigators are searching a particular area of the landfill, which he said presents a health and safety issue for law enforcement and thanked local agencies and business for helping supply needed protective equipment for their search.
If remains are found at the landfill, Slaughter said the Cascade County Sheriff’s Office would be involved as a coroner, but DCI is the lead investigating agency.
He said the landfill remains operational in areas other than where investigators are searching.
