Great Falls couple loses wedding decor, food in garage fire
A Great Falls couple lost all of their wedding decorations and food for their upcoming wedding in an overnight garage fire.
Great Falls Fire Rescue was dispatched to a structure fire in the 1800 block of 1st Avenue South at 1:05 a.m.
The first engine was en route by 1:07 a.m. and arrived on scene at 1:11 a.m., according to GFFR.
Firefighters found that the attached garage was on fire and the fire was threatening the main house, but all occupants of the home and their pets had safely escaped the house, according to GFFR.

The fire was engulfing the garage and moving into the house, so crews from Malmstrom Air Force Base and Montana Air National Guard fire departments were called to backfill two city fire stations.
The GFFR battalion chief called for one off-duty three-person crew to report back to work and GFFR had nine personnel, three fire engines and one ladder truck assigned to the fire.

Crews were able to extinguish the fire within 15 minutes of arriving on scene, but the fire caused extensive damage to the garage and potions of the house, according to GFFR.
The cause of the fire was determined to be an unattended electric smoker located next to the garage, according to GFFR.
The couple are staying in a hotel until power can be restored to their house.

The couple, Emily Burns and Garrison Smith, are set to be married in 10 days.
Burns posted that they’d been smoking pork butt for their wedding when the smoker caught fire and caused a propane tank to explode.
Haylie Ehnes Cook, a friend of the couple, told The Electric that friends are gathering wedding decor to help the couple and looking at options to help replace the food that was destroyed in the fire.
