City approved $1 million contract for East Fiesta Street reconstruction

Commissioners approved a $1,030,645 contract to United Materials during their April 2 meeting to reconstruct East Fiesta Street.

Staff recommended approval of the project to reconstruct the street between Fox Farm Road and Ferguson Drive.

According to city staff, the reconstruction is needed to replace aging infrastructure that is showing signs of deterioration.

The city’s street and traffic division indicated they’ve received numerous resident complaints about this stretch of roadway and have recurring maintenance issues.

The existing paved surface is considered by city staff to be in very poor condition.

Staff estimates the project will begin in July, depending on weather, material availability and contractor scheduling.

The project is expected to take four months to complete and will require closing portions of East Fiesta, Ferguson and Durango Drive during reconstruction.

Design phase engineering plans and specifications were completed by TD&H and city engineering staff will provide construction phase services and project inspection.

The city received one bid for the project, which includes removing and replacing about 4,000 square yards of 4-inch asphaltic concrete pavement; replacing about 2,100 lineal feet of integral concrete curb and gutter; removing and replacing 6,400 square feet of 4-inch concrete sidewalk; installing 8,100 square feet of 6-inch reinforced concrete; installing nine truncated domes; and landscaping repairs.

The project was selected and prioritized within the city’s public works capital improvements program and and is being funded by state Bridge and Road Safety and Accountability Act, or BaRSAA, fund and city street assessment funds, according to public works.
