County reviewing growth policy

The county planning board recently realized that it was coming up on the 5-year deadline to review its growth policy as required by state law.

The policy was last updated in May 2014.

Planning board members said this week that it had been pointed out to them recently that they needed to look at the policy and directed staff to put it on their April 16 agenda.

The current growth policy is available here.

The board voted to direct staff to review the growth policy and spent a significant amount of time Tuesday morning discussing with staff and members of the public who attended what the scope of review should be and how to solicit public comment.

Staff asked the board for direction on what they wanted in terms of a review and gathering public input.

Members of the public asked that the planning board review the growth policy before proceeding with any changes to the zoning regulations. They last had a public hearing regarding those proposed changes on March 26, but have taken no further action yet.

On Wednesday, staff posted on the planning division’s page of the county website that the county is seeking public comment on the growth policy.
