GFPD investigating two, unrelated, stabbing incidents overnight

Law enforcement responded to two, unrelated, stabbing incidents overnight in Great Falls.
A Great Falls Public Schools student was stabbed across the street from Great Falls High following their homecoming football game, according to GFPS.
School resource officers were on campus and other law enforcement and GFPS administrators were quickly on scene.

GFPS is conducting a district-level investigation and coordinating with the Great Falls Police Department for the criminal investigation.
The student was transported to the hospital by ambulance, according to GFPS.
In an emailed release, GFPS said it would “not be offering comment on the ongoing investigation.”
GFPD said officers were dispatched around 9:45 p.m. on Oct. 2 to 20th Street South and 2nd Avenue South for a disturbance.
Officers found a male with a stab wound that he’d received by attempting to break up an altercation between a male and female.

The victim was transported to Benefis Health System with life-threatening injuries, according to GFPD.
Detectives responded and a person of interest has been identified, but no one is in custody for this incident, according to GFPD.
Around 11:25 p.m. Oct 2, officers were dispatched to the 3800 block of 7th Street Northeast for a disturbance.
Two charged in downtown shooting near Gibson Park
At the scene, officers found five people with stab wounds, including an infant, according to GFPD.
A male suspect was taken into custody as he attempted to flee the scene, according to GFPD.
All victims were transported to the hospital with critical injuries, according to GFPD. The infant later died of her injuries.
Nichols changes plea in September 2025 shooting that injured high school student
Nathen Colby Thomas, 33, was booked into the Cascade County Adult Detention Center at 5:40 a.m. Oct. 3 on charges of attempted deliberate homicide, four counts of assault with a weapon and a count of driving a motor vehicle while suspended, according to the county jail roster.
He’s being held on a $500,000 bond and will likely make an initial appearance Monday afternoon in district court.
His charges will be amended to include homicide, according to GFPD.
Both incidents remain under investigation.

The incidents “stretched response capabilities causing GFPD to prioritize an ’emergency only’ response for the remainder of the night,” according to GFPD.
The Cascade County Sheriff’s Office filled in and responded to other calls while GFPD officers were handling the two stabbing incidents.
