The Montana Department of Transportation and Jeffery Contracting Inc. are closing the Interstate 15 Spring Creek Interchange, Exit 219, northbound off-ramp on weekdays from Sept. 24 through Sept. 30, weather and other unforeseen factors permitting.

Crews will prepare the ramp for paving once the closure is in place, and then paving is anticipated after the weekend.

MDT recommends using Exit 226 in Wolf Creek to access Recreation Road during the closure. The Exit 219 northbound off-ramp will be open Sept. 26-27 with a significantly reduced speed limit in place.

“The first two days of the closure we will be preparing the ramp for paving the following week,” Matt Widhalm, MDT engineering project manager. “September 28 to 30, we will be paving the ramp. We want to keep the ramp open over the weekend to minimize impacts to the traveling public.”

Due to the narrow width of the ramp, closure is the only viable option to complete this work, according to MDT.

Paving work on the southbound on-ramp will take place at a later date, to be announced.

Motorists traveling through the construction area should expect crossover traffic patterns, single-lane traffic traveling in both directions on the southbound side of I-15, and reduced speed limits.

A 12-foot width restriction remains in place, and all loads wider than 12 feet need to be staged and escorted. Motorists traveling through the project area between 4 and 6 a.m. may encounter brief interstate closures if wide-load escorts are needed.

Work on this project began in April 2026 when crews began removing and replacing more than a foot of degraded roadway material on the northbound lanes of I-15. Resurfacing the southbound lanes is expected in 2027.
