GFFR responds to barn fire, deemed total loss, dogs and chickens killed
Great Falls Fire Rescue was dispatched at 10:11 p.m. Sept. 7 to a barn fire at 1010 10th Ave. S.W.
The barn is considered a total loss and an attached storage building also sustained significant fire damage but may be salvageable, according to GFFR.
A dog and her seven puppies and a number of chickens died in the fire.
The property owners and neighbors moved the horses that were inside the barn to safety.

No human injuries were reported and the fire did not damage the primary residence on the
property, according to GFFR.
The fire is not believed to be criminal but the cause remains under investigation by GFFR.
GFFR crews arrived on scene around 10:18 p.m. and found the barn engulfed in fire.
The barn was a significant distance from 10th Avenue Southwest and the nearest fire hydrant, making it difficult for fire crews to establish an adequate water supply, according to GFFR.

It was also challenging for firefighters to access the main body of the fire since the barn was connected to additional structures that also caught fire.
GFFR crews worked for more than 90 minutes to bring the fire under control.
All four on-duty GFFR companies responded to the fire due to its size and complexity, so GFFR called back off-duty firefighters to provide emergency response coverage for the city and mutual aid assistance was requested from Malmstrom Air Force Base and the Montana Air National Guard fire departments.
