Cascade County primary election preliminary results

Updated 2 p.m. June 8

Preliminary results in the Cascade County primary are in.

Results are not final until the canvass, which is typically conducted within two weeks of the election and is scheduled for June 16.

According to Terry Thompson, county elections administrator, her office issued 36,039 absentee ballots.

Of those, 19,381 were returned and accepted, for a 54 percent turnout and 15,187 ballots were not returned, or 46 percent.

Of the ballots returned, 320 were rejected, or 1.7 percent.

Thompson said her office will report the counts by rejected category, such as mismatched signatures or no birth year, during the canvass.

Of those rejected, 25 voters resolved those issued by the 5 p.m. June 3 deadline and those ballots will be counted on June 8.

County elections officials issued and counted 890 ballots at polling places.

Elections staff are counting 27 provisional ballots on June 8.

Three of those were taken at Exhibition Hall and 25 at rural polls. One provisional ballot was dropped in the ballot box and tabulated on election night, Thompson said.

Seven ballots were mistakenly dropped in ballot boxes on election night, which made it to the tabulator.

Thompson said those seven include:

  • one absentee ballot dropped in a rural poll box without any envelopes, which judges noted on their poll book
  • five non-voted ballots were put in the poll boxes with the voted ballots, which judges noted on their poll book
  • one provisional ballot in a rural polling place was dropped into the ballot box rather than making it into a provisional envelope, so it was tabulated on election night and won’t be hand-counted on June 8

Thompson said she’ll have final numbers at the canvass regarding rejected ballots due to voters returning multiple ballots in their envelopes, of which there were a lot.

The instruction sheet sent to voters with their ballots states that voters should only return their single voted ballot.

Preliminary results for statewide offices and precinct committees are available here.
