County conducting aerial mosquito treatment on May 4
The Cascade County Weed and Mosquito Division is scheduled to conduct an aerial mosquito-larva-control treatment on May 4 in the Gibson Flats area south of Great Falls using a small fixed-wing aircraft.
The treatment will help prevent the growth of mosquito larvae currently in the marshy areas and flooded fields.
The area will be treated with an EPA-approved pesticide that contains a naturally occurring soil bacterium called Bti (Bacillus thuringiensis subspecies israelensis), according to the county.
This pesticide does not last long in the environment and is not harmful to birds, fish, beneficial insects, wildlife, livestock or humans, according to the county.
Depending on weather conditions, the treatment will start around 7:30 a.m. and last a few hours.
If the weather does not allow for a successful treatment, updates will be posted to the Cascade County website.
The treatment area map is below.
