Park and Rec hosting Ice Breaker logo contest after cutting external design contract
Great Falls Park and Recreation has opened a design contest for the 2026 Ice Breaker logo.
Locals can use their creativity to submit an original design, without using AI, for consideration as the logo for the next race.
Original designs need to be submitted in vector format and include:
- 46th annual Ice Breaker Road Race
- Great Falls, Montana
- 2026
- a penguin
Logo submissions are due by Oct. 25 to parkrequests@greatfallsmt.net.
City Commission to consider consultant contract for Park and Rec review
The top logos, as selected by staff, will be open for public vote from Oct. 27-31.
The winning logo designer will receive a free family registration for the 2026 race and a framed starting line photo of runners wearing their design.

Jessica Compton, interim Park and Rec director, told The Electric that the city stopped using a local company for the Ice Breaker logo and website last year, a cost that ranged from $12,000 to $15,000 in recent years.
She said Park and Rec staff took on more of the marketing work to cut costs, but other costs have increased, such as printing shirts, awards and staff works overtime for the event.
City Commissioners approve budget, intent to increase property taxes
The city’s Ice Breaker is an enterprise fund, meaning it’s intended to cover its cost through fees and sponsorships.
Compton told The Electric that sponsorship monies have changed over the years, putting more dependency on registration fees to offset event costs.
