83-year-old man found deceased in river
The Great Falls Police Department said Aug. 30 that Wayne Hunt was found deceased.
GFPD had been searching for the 83-year-old man who was last seen around 7:30 a.m. Aug. 29.
Lt. Matt Fleming, GFPD’s information officer, said the search had been generated by a call Friday night and GFPD issued a Silver Alert Saturday morning.
Hunt was last seen headed toward Walmart on Smelter Avenue and Saturday afternoon, GFPD said Hunt’s vehicle, a blue 2005 Chrysler Town and Country van with a Montana plate 2-76346B, had been spotted at a pullout off Lower River Road.
Hunt was not in the vehicle and his whereabouts were unknown.
GFPD continued searching the land in the area as the Cascade County Sheriff’s Office launched its search and rescue board to search the Missouri River and the banks, according to GFPD.
GFPD also used drones to conduct the search.
Fleming said at 9:10 p.m. Aug. 30 that a body had been located in the river and Cascade County Sheriff Jesse Slaughter said that the body was identified as Hunt.
“We can’t express enough our gratitude for the tremendous support this community showed today. So many of you out there looking for Wayne, calling in tips, sharing information, and sending support for his family,” GFPD said in a post.
