Calumet, Montana Renewables conducting drill today

Calumet Montana and Montana Renewables are conducting a plant-wide evacuation drill at 11 a.m. Aug. 20.

Media were notified of the drill on Aug. 18 and the information was embargoed until the start of the exercise since employees weren’t “pre-notified of the drill to preserve the integrity of the exercise,” according to Calumet.

During the drill, the plant emergency notification system will be activated.

Employees will be instructed to evacuate their work areas and report to one of two designated muster points at the East Admin Building at 1020 Smelter Ave. N.E. or Westgate offices at 1807 3rd Ave. N.E.

The exercise may be noticeable to the surrounding community due to audible alarms and visible employee movement.

“Calumet Montana and Montana Renewables emphasize that this is a planned safety drill and not an actual emergency. In the event of an incident requiring community response, specific instructions and guidance would be disseminated directly by city officials as part of a unified command structure,” according to Calumet.
