Great Falls Fire Rescue was dispatched at 5:52 a.m. Aug. 10 to a house fire at 406 6th Ave. S.
A GFFR engine crew arrived on scene at 5:56 a.m., finding heavy smoke conditions in the house, no visible fire and the occupant was safe and out of the house.

Upon entry into the house, firefighters found the fire to be in the void spaces of the floor, walls and ceiling, making getting to the seat of the fire labor intensive, according to GFFR.
To gain access, firefighters had to remove layers of sheetrock, flooring and ceiling and were then able to extinguish the fire, a process that took about 70 minutes from time of dispatch, according to GFFR.
“Luckily, crews were able to keep the fire in check during that time, keeping it from growing and spreading,” according to GFFR.
The cause was determined to be electrical.
The occupant and property owner didn’t have insurance on the house, which suffered extensive damage and was rendered unlivable, according to GFFR.
The American Red Cross was notified and is providing relief services for the occupant, according to GFFR.
Montana Air National Guard and Malmstrom Air Force Base fire departments backfilled GFFR stations while all city crews were combatting the house fire.
