Portion of River’s Edge Trail closed for improvements

A portion of the River’s Edge Trail below the Central Avenue bridge is closed for the next month for improvements.

The closure began Aug. 4 and will include replacing more than 700 linear feet of asphalt surfacing with reinforced concrete.

The section of trail is located between Milwaukee Station and the Electric City Water Park and is expected to reopen within five weeks, according to the city.

During the closure, those on the trail should use the crosswalk at the intersection.

City Commissioners approved a $145,593 contract to United Materials during their June 3 meeting for the project, which is being funded by Missouri-Madison River Fund, Northwestern Energy grants, the River’s Edge Trail Foundation and city park maintenance district funds.

The project will replace about 703 linear feet of asphalt surfacing on the segment of River’s Edge Trail located along River Drive North and River Drive South between Milwaukee Station and the Electric City Water Park, including a section under the Central Avenue bridge.
