City approves $65,000 in CDBG funds for park ADA improvements

City Commissioners approved $65,000 for park ADA improvements during their July 15 meeting.

Commissioners approved the funding through a Community Development Block Grant agreement with the city public works department for the installation of ADA sidewalk landings adjacent to Grande Vista and Bel View parks.

City staff received specific requests for ADA landings in those two parks as there’s a demonstrated need in those areas where people had constructed makeshift ramps for accessibility into the parks, according to staff.

The project will install two handicap landings at Grande Vista Park and one landing at Bel View Park, according to the city.

Public Works staff has completed the engineering for the project and will oversee the bid process and construction.

The CDBG funding will be used for construction.

Staff said that using CDBG funding for the project will save city departments from having to fund the project through the street assessment or gas tax revenue. The project would be postponed without CDBG funds, according to city staff.

The project aligns with priorities in the city’s public right of way ADA transition plan.
