City proposing sanitation rate increases to help cover costs, including protested landfill fee jump: City staffers presented their annual review of the sanitation program and proposed changes during the City Commission’s April 3 meeting. The city annually reviews their utility funds to determine if fee increases are needed to cover costs. Commissioners approved a rate. Staff is proposing increases over the next two years.

City continuing discussion of funding for GFFR training center, which is currently unusable: City Commissioners told staff during their April 1 meeting to move forward with bringing forward a proposal for non-voted general obligation debt to fund a new training center for Great Falls Fire Rescue. GFFR Chief Jeremy Jones brought the initial proposal to commissioners during their Jan. 21 work session for $2.5 million, financed through non-voted general obligation debt, to revamp the training center.

Air Force activates Malmstrom unit for ICBM conversion: The Air Force stood up the Site Activation Task Force Detachment 11 at Malmstrom Air Force Base on April 4 as part of its intercontinental ballistic missile modernization effort.

CCHD recommending measles vaccines while local agencies preparing for potential cases: The Cascade County City-County Health Department, along with Great Falls Public Schools and area hospitals, are working to educate the community about the potential impact of measles cases here. In March, CCHD sent a letter to all daycares and private schools in the county to provide guidance and Great Falls Public Schools sent a similar letter. Additional guidance will be distributed in the event of any confirmed measles cases in Cascade County.
