New director sought for The History Museum as Scott steps down

Kristi Scott is leaving her position as executive director at The History Museum.

The museum’s board has opened the search for a new director.

Scott has served as the museum’s director since March 2019, succeeding Jim Meinert, who served as director for nine years.

In a museum newsletter, Scott wrote that there has been a recent shift her her personal responsibilities, prompting her decision to step down to spend more time with her family.

She wrote that she’ll remain in Great Falls and involved with the museum.

“I’d like to express my gratitude for our past and present board of directors whose confidence in my museum experience and leadership skills allowed latitude to explore new horizons,” Scott wrote.

During her tenure, Scott wrote that the museum has “made significant strides in preserving valuable collections, including city and county records, Tribune reporter research files, and Ursuline Western Province Indian Boarding School archives. These collections remain in the community’s collective hands, well cared for at our facility. We’ve also enhanced security, updated signage, and created popular Second Saturday programming.”

The museum will unveil three new exhibits, relaunch the Ozark event space and new programming in the research center for museum members, Scott wrote.

“With a strong foundation in place, dedicated staff and community supporters I am confident that the museum’s bright future will continue. The sky’s the limit for The History Museum and Research Center,” Scott wrote.

The museum’s board is “seeking a visionary executive director to lead and oversee its operations, ensuring The History Museum…continues to serve as a dynamic exhibit and research center.”

The position pays $62,000 or more depending on experience, according to the vacancy post.

Applicants should submit a cover letter, resume and two references by April 18.
