MDT seeking public comment on several proposed projects

The Montana Department of Transportation is seeking public comment on a proposal to resurface about one mile of US Highway 87 Bypass, also known as 57th Street, on the east side of Great Falls.

The project begins at the intersection with 2nd Avenue North, and extends south, ending near the intersection with 10th Avenue South.

Proposed work includes milling the existing surface, applying a new overlay, and finishing with a seal and cover (chip seal), upgraded pavement markings, and new signage. The raised medians will be replaced and new roadway lighting will be installed. The purpose of the project is to address pavement deterioration and enhance roadway safety features, according to MDT.

Construction is tentatively planned for 2027 depending on completion of design and availability of funds. No new right-of-way will be needed. Need for utility relocation will be determined as design progresses.

This project is within the boundaries of the Central Montana Transportation Study.

The public is encouraged to contact Great Falls District preconstruction engineer James Combs at 406-454-5900 or project design engineer Chris Ward at 406-454-5894 with questions or comments about the project.
