Malmstrom group commander relieved of command
Col. Jeremy Russell, commander of the 341st Maintenance Group, was relieved of command Nov. 6 today by Col. Daniel Voorhies, 341st Missile Wing commander, due to a loss of trust and confidence in Russell’s ability to command.
That’s all the information Malmstrom Air Force Base officials released in a post on their website this week.
In response to an inquiry from The Electric, Malmstrom public affairs said that group commander position falls under the Personnel Reliability Program.

PRP is a military evaluation and reporting program to “select and maintain reliable individuals to perform duties associated with nuclear weapons,” according to the Air Force manual.
“A commander directed investigation was conducted, but we are unable to comment further,” Malmstrom public affairs told The Electric.
A commander directed investigation is “a tool to gather, analyze and record relevant information about matters of primary interest to those in command. The CDI is an extension of the commander’s authority to investigate and to correct problems within the command. As such, the CDI is internal to the command concerned. There are two reasons a commander may want to conduct a CDI: to investigate systemic (or procedural) problems or to look into matters regarding individual conduct or responsibility. CDIs are administrative investigations,” according to a document published by the Air Force’s Office of the Inspector General.
The 341st Maintenance Group consists of the 741st Maintenance Squadron, the 741st Maintenance Squadron, the 341st Munitions Squadron and Quality Assurance.
Russell assumed command of the group in July 2023.

Malmstrom public affairs has not yet responded to The Electric’s question of who is currently leading the maintenance group.
According to his biography, now removed from the Malmstrom website, as group commander, Russell was “responsible for more than 550 airmen and all sustainment, modernization, and deployment operations required in sustaining and modernizing up to 150 Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missiles and associated launch facilities and launch control centers throughout the 13,800 square mile complex.”

The group commander is also the senior advisor to the wing commander regarding logistics and maintenance.
Russell graduated high school in 1995 and enlisted in the Air Force, completing assignments as a munitions journeyman. He was accepted into the Officer Training School at Maxwell AFB in Alabama and after commissioning as an officer, he oversaw maintenance on Minuteman and Peacekeeper ICBMs and B-61s, according to his now removed biography.
