Paving on I-15 at Wolf Creek underway this week
The Montana Department of Transportation and Riverside Contracting Inc. are beginning asphalt paving on the northbound lanes of the Interstate 15 Wolf Creek North and South project the week of Sept. 9.
The construction schedule is subject to change based on weather and other unforeseen factors.
Crews will begin paving on the north end of project near the Augusta Interchange and work their way south to the I-15 Wolf Creek bridge. Once this section is complete, crews will continue working their way south from the bridge. This work is anticipated to take approximately two weeks to complete, according to MDT.
During this work, motorists should anticipate periodic ramp closures on the northbound side of I-15 when crews are paving past ramps and while asphalt cures.
These closures will generally last a couple of hours.
MDT and Riverside Contracting encourage motorists to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, slow down, and use caution through the work zone. Motorists can expect single lane traffic on I-15, flaggers or temporary signals to direct traffic, and reduced speed limits.
Construction on this project began in spring 2023 and the project is expected to be completed in summer 2025.
“The purpose of the project is to improve the driving surface and enhance roadway safety features on this seven-mile stretch of I-15. The extreme climate and numerous freeze/thaw cycles in the Wolf Creek Canyon have caused the roadway material to degrade to the point where routine maintenance is no longer practical,” according to MDT.
