The city’s public works environmental division is again partnering with Veolia North America to host a household hazardous waste collection event Sept. 14.

The event is 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the lot just south of the Great Falls Police Department at 112 1st St. S.

Residents can bring in everything from antifreeze, gasoline, lighter fluid, paint thinner, road flares, shellac, fertilizer, furniture polish, insect spray, cleaners, disinfectants, hair remover, nail polish and more.

Latex based paint products will not be accepted.

For questions about disposal of latex based paint products, contact public works environmental at 406-727-8390.

The goal of the household hazardous waste event is to ensure the safe and compliant management and disposal of household hazardous waste.

Waste from commercial businesses will not be accepted.

According to public works, when latex paint is died, it is not hazardous and can be safely discarded in your regular garbage container.

“The easiest way to dry out latex paint is to mix it with kitty litter or sand and leave the lid off to allow it to completely dry out. Then just replace the lid and bag it and place in your regular garbage container,” according to public works.
