North Middle School teacher arrested on felony charges

A North Middle School teacher was arrested Aug. 21 on two felony charges of sexual intercourse without consent out of Lewis and Clark County.

The Great Falls Police Department assisted the Lewis and Clark County Sheriff’s Office with executing the arrest warrant for Michael Jarrett for crimes that allegedly occurred in Lewis and Clark County several years ago when the victim was a juvenile, according to GFPD.

GFPS said in a statement that “as soon as the allegations were known to us, we placed the teacher on administrative leave and he will have no access to or involvement with district premises, property, staff or students.”

The district is conducting its own investigation.

GFPS said in their statement that the charges involve Jarrett’s off-duty conduct with a minor who is now an adult.

“We take these allegations seriously and we are uncompromising in our commitment to safe and secure schools,” GFPS said in a statement.

The Electric has requested a copy of the charging documents.

GFPS Superintendent Heather Hoyer told The Electric that there were no charges until Aug. 21 so the incident didn’t show up during a background check.

Jarrett was remanded to the Cascade County Adult Detention Center and has since posted bond on the $100,000 warrant, according to GFPD.
