Youth mentor hunt set for Sept. 14 in Great Falls
A mentor youth hunt is planned for Sept. 14 in Great Falls.
The event is sponsored by Golden Triangle Chapter of Pheasants Forever and Golden Triangle Sporting Dog Club.
It will be the sixth year the groups are providing the program free of charge.
To participate, youth must have completed hunter’s safety. If a certificate has been obtained through the apprentice hunter program, they may be considered for a slot, according to organizers.
The event is limited to 20 youth.
FWP hosting bowhunter education field day in Ulm
There will be gun safety instruction and shooting at a clay pigeon station. Youth must demonstrate shotgun safety and complete shooting at the clay pigeon station before going to the field for a live hunt of pheasants.
Youth will be accompanied in the field by a mentor, dog handler and sporting dog, according to organizers, and youth who have their own 20-gauge shotguns are encouraged to bring them.
A gun will be provided for those that don’t have their own and organizers will provide ammunition.

Participants will receive a certificate of completion and a free year of youth membership to Pheasants Forever.
A registration packet will be mailed in August to those who have pre-registered and required forms need to be completed and returned by Sept. 9.
Pheasant Forever and Quail Forever’s education and outreach, and No Child Left Indoors initiatives are “dedicated to working with volunteers, chapters and partners to share our hunting heritage, passion for the outdoors and appreciation for wildlife habitat with men and women, young and old,” according to the organization.
