City shelter participating in summer pet adoption event

The city animal shelter is participating in the summer National Empty the Shelters event with Bissell Pet Foundation from July 8-31.

During the event, adoption fees for all cats and dogs at the shelter will be $20.

Adoption fees don’t include the cost of a city license for city residents, which is $45 for a lifetime license.

County switching from city to private dog shelter services

The city shelter faces overcrowding and a lack of resources to care for animals, according to the shelter.

The Bissell event helps alleviate those pressures by reducing adoption fees and encouraging more people to adopt pets.
