Great Falls Police were dispatched around 1 a.m. Feb. 20 to 1901 10th Ave. S. for a report of a male being shot in the abdomen.

The victim was transported to Benefis Health System where he “required immediate surgical intervention to treat the gunshot wound,” according to court documents.

Man arrested for early morning shooting

GFPD officers on scene talked to Taco Bell staff and learned the suspect had been inside a red Ford pickup. Witnesses told police that Vaughn and the other occupant of the truck appeared to be intoxicated.

Officers did a vehicle registration check and found that Vaughn owned a red Ford truck. At the scene, officers found a fired cartridge casing and an identification belonging to Aden Foster, who’s last known address was in the 1600 block of 9th Avenue South.

Using location data on Foster’s phone, they found it was near Vaughn’s residence.

Around 3 a.m. a GFPD officer found fresh tire tracks entering Vaughn’s garage and made contact with him at his residence where he was taken into custody without incident but he refused to make a statement, according to court documents.

City reviewing public safety needs, resources after levy failure

Around 8:30 a.m., Foster contacted GFPD and agreed to turn himself in.

He was Mirandized and provided a statement indicating that Vaughn had been driving and attempting to order food at Taco Bell when he and an employee got into an argument.

Foster said that Vaughn pulled into the parking lot and shot the victim, who had exited the business, then the two left the scene in the truck.

GFPD conducted a criminal history check on Vaughn and didn’t find any previous arrests or convictions.

Prosecutors requested a $50,000 bond and a no contact order with the victim and witnesses. Prosecutors also requested that Vaughn be placed on GFPS monitoring prior to release as well as alcohol monitoring.
