Officers, with the help of Great Falls Fire Rescue and their boat, took the male into custody about 10:15 a.m. July 28, according to GFPD.
The male has a no bond probation and parole warrant, according to GFPD, and will be remanded to the Cascade County Detention Center shortly.
On Aug. 3, GFPD provided an update to The Electric on this incident.
GFPD said that around 9:20 a.m. July 28, a GFPD officer conducting business at the federal courthouse was notified by federal court security that they were concerned about a suspicious cart outside the courthouse, near the river.
The GFPD officer found a male sitting in the trees, a short distance from the cart.
After the male identified himself, the GFPD officer asked dispatchers to check the name for warrants, and before the officer received a reply, the male ran into the river and swam downstream, according to GFPD.
The officer was concerned for the male’s safety and requested additional officers and the Great Falls Fire Rescue river rescue team.
Shortly after the male went into the river, dispatch told officers that he had a no bond warrant from Montana Probation and Parole, according to GFPD.
The male, identified as Jordan Galvan, 32, stayed in the water, refused to comply with officer orders to swim to shore and surrender, and sometimes disappeared under the waves, according to GFPD.
A GFPD officer joined GFFR in their rescue boat and the team drove to Galvan and took him into custody without injury.
