Veterans Stand Down is Sept. 5-6

This year’s VETS4VETS Stand Down is Sept. 5-6 at Montana Expo Park.

The opening ceremony begins at 10 a.m. Sept. 5 and the guest speaker is Jill Stephenson, Gold Star mother of Cpl. Ben Kopp.

Kopp was a rifleman assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment at Fort Benning, Ga. He was born on Jan. 20, 1988, in Minneapolis, Minn. and seriously wounded during a combat operation in southern Afghanistan on July 10, 2009. Kopp was medically evacuated through Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany to Walter Reed Medical Center,Washington, D.C., where he died as a result of his wounds July 18. Kopp was on his third deployment in support of the War on Terror with two previous deployments to Iraq.

The book ‘Heart of a Ranger’ by Bill Lunn chronicles Kopp and Stephenson’s lives.

The Stand Down organizers are seeking Gold Star families to attend and be honored during the event.
