City considering provision to delegate authority for traffic and parking control to Public Works

During Wednesday’s meeting, City Commissioners will consider a revision to Title 10 of city code pertaining to vehicles and traffic.

In September, commissioners adopted an ordinance repealing and replacing Title 10 and those provisions became effective in October.

City staff believes further clarification and delegation of authority under the new provisions is necessary, according to the staff report.

Staff is recommending an update that will delegate authority and grant approval to the Great Falls Public Works Department to place and maintain traffic and parking control signs, signals and devices when necessary and in compliance with all state, federal and local law and applicable approval from the Montana Department of Transportation.

The change will allow Public Works to continue to establish traffic control measures efficiently without requiring administrative action from the commission.
