City offices closed for New Year’s Day; no Christmas tree recycling this year

City offices, including the Civic Center, Great Falls Public Library, and the Animal Shelter will be closed Jan. 1, for New Year’s Day. City offices will be closing at 3 p.m. on Dec. 31.

Residential and commercial sanitation collection will be one day behind the normal scheduled days for both the Christmas and New Year’s holiday weeks.

The Community Recreation Center will be closed New Year’s Day. For information regarding the Community Recreation Center’s School’s Out Fun Days program taking place over the winter break call 727-6099.

The City’s online services, including online utility bill pay and the Mansfield Box Office are available online over the holidays and can be accessed at https://greatfallsmt.net.

“Unfortunately, due to no recycling outlet, the City of Great Falls and Montana Waste Systems will not have a Christmas tree recycling program this year. Our crews will pick up your Christmas tree on your normal pick-up day. Please make sure to place your Christmas tree along with any extras you may have 3 to 4 feet away from your garbage container,” according to the city.

In years past, trees were collected by the city and Montana Waste Systems to be composted or used for fish habitat.
