City working to restore web-based live stream for commission, board meetings

The city has temporarily discontinued its live stream of meetings on the city website.

Antiquated equipment and incompatibility between newer pieces of equipment and software has caused continued problems for the web live stream.

In October, the City Commission approved a $7,200 contract with AVI Systems Inc. for engineering services to upgrade recording and streaming capabilities to high-definition in the Gibson Room and Commission Chambers at the Civic Center.

According to the city, AVI has assigned an engineer to the project.

During Nov. 20 meeting, Deputy City Manager Chuck Anderson updated commissioners that AVI was working on a solution for the live streaming issues and will restore the service as soon as possible.

Anderson said that the city is tentatively going live Jan. 1 with a new agenda software.

Anderson and City Manager Greg Doyon have been updating commissioners about the status of the live streaming during their regular meetings.

The public can still attend commission meetings, as well as other city board meetings.

The commission work session and regular meetings, as well as the Planning Advisory Board/Zoning Commission and the Board of Adjustment/Appeal meetings are recorded and typically posted on the city website the day after the meeting. The videos, minutes and documents are available here: https://greatfallsmt.net/meetings.

Those meetings are also typically aired live and recorded meetings are re-aired on cable channel 190, the city’s government access channel. The schedule is:

City Commission work session meetings are broadcast live from the Gibson Room 212 the first and third Tuesday of each month beginning at 5:30 p.m., and re-aired the following Thursday morning at 10 a.m., and on the second and fourth Tuesday nights of each month at 5:30 p.m. on cable channel 190.

City Commission meetings are broadcast live from the Commission Chambers Room 206 the first and third Tuesday of each month beginning at 7 p.m., and re-aired the following Wednesday morning at 10 a.m., and on the second and fourth Tuesday nights of each month at 7 p.m. on cable channel 190.

If there are agenda items, the Planning Advisory Board/Zoning Commission meetings are broadcast live on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 3 p.m., and re-aired the following Thursday at 7 p.m. on cable channel 190.

The Board of Adjustment/Appeals meets on demand. The meetings are usually scheduled for Thursdays at 3 p.m. These meetings are also broadcast live, and then re-aired the following Friday morning at 10 a.m. on cable channel 190.
