Forum on legislative impacts to local government set for Aug. 28

Great Falls Rising is hosting a forum on Aug. 28 with city and county commissioners on local issues and how state legislative decisions impact local government.

All three Cascade County Commissioners have committed to attend, and as of Tuesday, four of the five City Commissioners had committed. Commissioner Tracy Houck was attempting to adjust her schedule so she could attend.

State legislators from the area and candidates for the November election will also attend and discuss their thoughts on the issues that affect city and county operations and budgets.

The discussion will include how past legislative decisions have affected local government, what new legislation local leaders are pursuing in the upcoming session and how can local constituents stay informed on the issues.

The event is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Aug. 28 at the Episcopal Church of the Incarnation at 600 3rd Ave. S.

The event is open to the public.

Areas of concern that some local officials have mentioned recently include tax increment financing, zoning regulations, local tax caps and recent law changes impacting law enforcement.
