Calumet Montana Refining is conducting an annual river spill response drill today.

The exercise is in coordination with H2O Environmental and required to comply with U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and U.S. Department of Transportation’s Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration annual refresher training.

The exercise in Great Falls will include deployment of containment booms in area waterways, so residents may become aware of the drill activities.

Great Falls Fire Rescue is participating in the exercise.

Great Falls Police Department has asked residents not to call 911 or the non-emergency number to report any of the activity related to the exercise.

This is only a drill and is not being conducted in response to any known threat or occurrence, according to Calumet.

The drill is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
