MDT awards contract to replace Augusta bridge washed out by June flooding

The Montana Department of Transportation has awarded a contract to Helena Sand and Gravel to repair Montana Highway 21 east of Augusta where the Elk Creek Overflow bridge washed out in June.
Proposed work includes replacing the failed structure with three 7-foot culverts, filling in the scour and washout areas, and restoring base gravel and pavement. Utilities are currently being moved in preparation of the site for repair work.

The project is tentatively scheduled to be complete on Aug. 17, depending on approval of environmental permits. Alternate routes are available through Fairfield and Secondary Highway 408 or Bowman’s Corner on Montana Highway 200 and U.S. Highway 287.
