Sun River at flood stage near Simms, more flooding possible this weekend
The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch which remains in effect from Saturday evening through Tuesday afternoon.
Cascade County posted Friday morning that there’s a potential for the Sun River to go above flood stage this weekend. Flood stage is 7.5 feet, and the forecast is to reach 8.6 feet by early next week.
By Friday evening, the National Weather Service reported that the Sun River had risen above flood stage at Simms and the latest forecast indicate the river will remain at or above flood stage for the next few days.
Canyon Ferry is increasing releases into the Missouri River to keep the river below flood stage below flood stage at Ulm, Great Falls and Fort Benton, according to NWS.
But the river could rise to bankful in low areas, NWS reported. No flood watch is issued, but that could change over the coming days, according to NWS.
