Commission to consider changes to county zoning regulations for allowable uses in mixed use zones with special use permits

During Tuesday’s meeting, Cascade County Commissioners will consider an update to the existing zoning regulations on uses permitted upon issuance of a special use permit in a mixed use district.
The change was requested by the Sun River Valley Public Schools and if approved would apply to mixed use districts countywide.
Staff is also requesting to amend the definition of “community residential facility.”
The planning board held a public meeting March 20 and voted 7-0 to recommend that commissioners approve the regulation change.
The proposed zoning amendment would allow for a second dwelling or multifamily dwelling unit including a duplex within a mixed use district with a special use permit.
The change was requested by the school district to provide affordable in-district housing in the hopes of attracting and retaining educators in Simms, according to the staff report.
