Maintenance at Calumet will cause more flaring than usual; refinery says no public safety risk

Some maintenance at Calumet Montana Refining will cause more flaring than usual.
The flaring is expected to last into next week and during this time, the flare will be visible and it may be able to be heard, according to Calumet.
“The gas that is being flared is primarily Hydrogen gas, which burns cleanly and results in extremely low greenhouse gas emissions,” according to a Calumet release.
Refinery flares are essential safety devices in refinery operations and are subject to strict regulatory controls, according to Calumet. The flaring doesn’t pose any threat to human health, safety or the environment, according to the release.
