Fire restrictions will be modified in Cascade County to prohibit all campfires

Cascade County Commissioners are holding a special meeting Thursday to amend the Stage 1 fire restrictions they implemented earlier this month.

The change is subject to commission vote, but will likely pass.

Commissioner Jane Weber said the meeting has been called to modify Stage 1 restrictions to remove the campfire exemption. That means no fires or campfires are allowed anywhere in Cascade County.

Under Stage 1, campfires were allowed if they were a certain size and in a fire ring at campgrounds, but the modification will prohibit any and all campfires in Cascade County.

The updated restrictions will go into effect at 12:01 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 2.

The modified restrictions come as the fire danger remains high since there has been little rain, continued hot temperatures, dry fuels, low humidity and high winds.
