GFFR responds to two fires within 24 hours
Great Falls Fire Rescue responded to two structure fires over the last 24-hours, bringing the city up to 28 fire incidents for the year so far.
The first was a warehouse fire at Hickory Swing Golf Course, which was reported around 8:08 p.m. March 30.
GFFR crews arrived on scene at 1100 American Avenue to find the building fully involved with fire, including multiple golf carts and equipment inside.
Crews initiated defensive operations to contain the fire and a second alarm was issued, calling in off-duty firefighters.
No injuries were reported.
GFFR got the fire under control and a fire watch was established to monitor for any rekindling.
The cause of the fire hasn’t yet been determined and investigators are working with Hickory Swing staff to continue their assessment.
In a post, Hickory Swing thanked GFFR and said the golf course is open and ready for play with no damage to the course.
GFFR crews found smoke in the hallway upon arrival on scene and upgraded the incident to a full structure fire response.

Crews made entry into a single apartment at the senior living facility, containing the fire to the point of origin.
One occupant was found in the apartment with burn injuries requiring critical prehospital care and was airlifted to a regional burn center in Salt Lake City for further treatment, according to GFFR.
The apartment fire didn’t require a call back and the cause has not yet been determined, but doesn’t appear to be criminal in nature, according to GFFR.

GFFR is reminding the community that these fires “highlight the importance of working smoke alarms, fire sprinkler systems, and the prompt reporting of fires. Early notification allows our crews to respond quickly, limiting fire spread and improving outcomes.”
So far this year, GFFR has responded to the following:
- 5 – outside
- 4 – trash/rubbish
- 5 – vegetation/grass fires
- 1 – dumpster or other outdoor container
- 5 – structure fire – structural involvement
- 4 – structure fire – room and contents
- 4 – vehicle fire
