Couple charged in stabbing, arson
Two people have been charged in a March 14 incident.
Shaenell Jaime, 30, has been charged with a felony count of negligent arson and a misdemeanor count of obstructing a peace officer, according to court documents.
Randy Lee Houghtaling, 31, has been charged with two felony counts of assault with a weapon.
Both were in the Cascade County Adult Detention Center as of March 17.
Great Falls Police officers were dispatched to 618 3rd Ave. S. at 3:43 a.m. March 14 for reports of a disturbance.
On arrival, the officer entered the home and found a man kneeling on the ground with a stab wound on his left shoulder with someone holding a piece of clothing to his back.

The stabbing victim told officers that he’d been having issues with Justin had been having issues with Houghtaling, who earlier that day had been banging on his door and house and was in his front yard with Jaime, according to court documents.
Houghtaling jumped on the victim, began hitting him and the victim said he felt something stab him but didn’t see what.
He saw Houghtaling and Jaime run back to a silver GMC vehicle.
The victim was unsure but believed Houghtaling may have a gun, so he had his phone out to start recording video.
Another victim in the house told officers that he heard banging on the front door and when he went outside, saw Houghtaling attacking the first victim.

He went inside to grab shoes and when he came back out, Jaime was lighting rages on fire and throwing them at the victim’s house. One landed on the house causing a small fire that the second victim out out with snow, according to court documents.
The second victim told officers that it appeared Jaime was using lighter fluid to wet the rags and didn’t see the first victim get stabbed, but saw Jaime and Houghtaling go east on 3rd Avenue South toward a silver SUV, according to charging documents.
Officers found a fuel-soaked rag on the ground in front of the house and there appeared to be burnt residue on the house where a rag landed, according to court documents.
Another witness told officers that he was out the house but didn’t witness the stabbing and didn’t go outside until Houghtaling and Jaime were leaving.

Witnesses said they saw Houghtaling pull a rifle out of the SUV and point it directly at them, according to court documents.
The GMC was located at Jaime’s house at 801 2nd Ave. S.
Houghtaling is known to regularly be in or around the residence as he’s in a relationship with Jaime, according to court documents.
Officers knocked on her door multiples times and have commands that she was under arrest at the door and through the vehicle’s speaker system, according to court documents.
Officers flashed emergency lights and sirens to notify everyone inside that they were there, but Jaime did not come outside.
While Jaime was barricaded in her house, one of her children had a medical emergency. She called dispatch and brought her child outside where Jaime was detained, according to court documents.
After being read her Miranda rights, Jaime said she hadn’t seen Houghtaling since they picked their kids up from school, but changed her statement multiple times and later asked for a lawyer, according to court documents.
GFFR responds to recent fires, numbers on par with last year [2025]
She eventually gave officers consent to search the house, saying Houghtaling wasn’t there and that she’d never been in the attic and didn’t know how to open in.
While clearing the house, officers saw debris from the attic on the floor, observed blood in the kitchen and found Houghtaling’s phone in the house, leading officers to believe he had barricaded himself in the attic.
He was taken into custody on March 16, according to the jail roster.
Great Falls Fire Rescue had investigated two other small fires within a 24-hour period over the weekend, including one believed to be intentionally set and referred to the GFPD for criminal investigation.
The first occurred March 12 at 8:45 a.m. at 1009 3rd Ave. N. and originated on the front porch that was stated by improperly disposed smoking materials. The residence sustained minimal damage, no occupants were displaced and no injuries were reported, according to GFFR.
The second occurred at 7:21 a.m. March 13 at 804 3rd Ave. S. and crews responded to a shed fire in the backyard of a vacant house that wasn’t damaged.
The shed sustained minor exterior fire damage and minor smoke damage to the interior, according to GFFR.
The fire was deemed intentional and GFFR referred the case to GFPD for investigation.
Those fires brought the total so far for 2026 to 26, according to Fire Marshal Mike McIntosh.
