GFPD responding to multiple weather related crashes, asking drivers to slow down

The Great Falls Police Department is being inundated with weather related crashes.

In the last 20 minutes, just before noon Fen. 17, GFPD has responded to six crashed between I-15 Exit 0 and Fox Farm Road, on top of several other crashed on 10th Avenue South and other areas of town.

Officials have just closed the exit from the interstate to County Club Boulevard/10th Avenue South until the crashes get cleared up, according to GFPD.

The Montana Department of Transportation is laying sand and GFPD has requested additional support.

GFPD is asking that drivers be aware of:

  • hazardous driving conditions
  • to slow down and leave plenty of stopping room
  • turn on their lights
  • be patient

“The roads are extremely dangerous right now. We’re asking for the community’s help in reducing crashes. The best thing drivers can do is slow way down,” said Sgt. Tad Kimmet.

The Great Falls National Weather Service office has issued winter and cold weather advisories for Great Falls.
