Library launching new video streaming service on July 1

The Great Falls Public Library is launching Kanopy video streaming for library card holders beginning July 1.

The service is being funded through the Great Falls Public Library Foundation.

Kanopy is a video streaming service that offers films, documentaries and educational videos, accessible for free through participating public libraries and universities.

Kanopy has ad-free content, including critically acclaimed movies, foreign films and classic cinema, according to the library.

For access, active library card holders can download the app or sign up online, and they will receive 12 “tickets” per month that can be used on films within the Kanopy library.

Kanopy also provides a “Kanopy Kids” section with a wide range of children’s programming for kids of all ages. Those films are accessible without any ticket restrictions. Adult users can set parental controls on their account by setting a unique PIN within the app settings.

GFPL patrons must be 18 years old or older to sign up for a Kanopy account.

The service can be accessed on PCs and Macs, and most Android/Apple Devices along with a variety of smart TVs.

Kanopy is owned by the same company as Overdrive (Libby), which the library uses for ebooks.
