McDowell sentenced to life in prison for sexual assault, incest
Timothy McDowell was sentenced in district court on April 21 on charges of sexual assault, incest, strangulation of a partner or family member and assault on a minor.
On the count of sexual assault, he was sentenced to life in prison with a 35 year parole restriction. He was sentenced to 100 years with a 35 year parole restriction on the incenst charge to run consecutive to the first count.
McDowell was also sentenced to on year in the Cascade County Adult Detention Center on the strangulation charge to run concurrent and five years in prison for the assault on a minor to run consecutive to the other sentences.

That’s a total of 105 years in prison, plus life in prison and McDowell would be eligible for parole when he’s more than 110 years old, according to the Cascade County Attorney’s Office.
McDowell has been sitting in the county jail since June 2022.
He was sentenced to the Montana Department of Corrections in 2022, but hadn’t moved yet since the 2023 charges of incest and sexual assault, according to the county attorney’s office.
In October 2024, a jury convicted him of the four charges and now that he’s been sentenced, he can be moved to the Montana State Prison, according to the county attorney’s office.
In 2023, a then 15-year-old girl was in a counseling session when she disclosed that her biological father, McDowell, had been sexually and physically abusing her for years.

McDowell was already being held in the county jail on a separate PFMA/strangulation charge from 2022.
Great Falls Police officers talked to the victim who said McDowell had strangled her during one incident leaving her unable to breath and that she had started to lose consciousness.
The victim told officer that McDowell had done “sexual things” to her on a nearly daily basis since she was about 11 years old, according to court documents.

During a forensic interview, the victim said that McDowell had given her a black eye and multiple bruises, forced her to touch his genitals, penetrated her vaginally and punched her in the stomach during sexual encounters to keep her quiet, according to court documents. She told investigators that he had threatened her not to tell anyone about the abuse.
The victim’s mother told investigators that McDowell was “way meaner” to the victim than the other children in the home and that he’d also fired a shotgun into their bedroom floor after pointing the gun at her, then himself, according to court documents.
