GFPS board sets superintendent evaluation process
The Great Falls Public School board voted during their March 24 meeting to use the same evaluation tool they’d used in the past for the first evaluation of Superintendent Heather Hoyer.
Board policy requires that the board evaluate the superintendent’s performance, at least annually, using standards and objectives developed by the superintendent and board, consistent with the district’s mission and goal statements.
The evaluation includes a discussion of professional strengths and areas needing improvement.
School board member Amie Thompson said that it’s the same evaluation tool the board used for the 2022-2023 school year with Tom Moore.

She said they didn’t do an evaluation for the 2023-2024 school year since it was Moore’s last year.
The board decided last fall to delay the evaluation for Hoyer since she’d assumed the role in July 2024 and the board felt that wasn’t enough time for a proper evaluation.
Thompson encouraged the public to provide feedback through the survey that would be on the GFPS website by March 28.
Written comments from the public are due by April 23 and must include the author’s name and address to be considered in the evaluation process.

Those comments should be submitted to Thompson, evaluation committee chair, at amie_thompson@gfps.k12.mt.us, or mailed to Amie Thompson, P.O. Box 2429, Great Falls, MT 59403.
On April 28, Thompson will provide a summary of the written comments from the public and provide the evaluation tool to the board members for completion. The board will take public comment about the evaluation during the meeting.
Individual assessments from board members are due by May 1 and Thompson will compile all scores and comments into a single document.
During the May 12 meeting, the board will complete the evaluation discussion during a meeting that can be held in executive session, then take formal action during open session.
On May 16, the board will make the compiled summary of the evaluation available to the public.
There was no board discussion or public comment on the evaluation tool or timeline during the March 24 meeting.
