First Peoples Buffalo Jump State Park hosting sunset hike March 14

First Peoples Buffalo Jump State Park is celebrating the first full moon of spring with a sunset hike on March 14.

The full moon will rise around 8:15 p.m. that evening after the sun sets at 7:29 p.m. and the visitor center gate will be open from 5-9 p.m. for hikers to come out and enjoy the park’s three-mile trail.

The two-hour hike begins at 7 p.m. at the visitor center and Ranger Andy Keller will lead the guided hike designed to help visitors learn about the history of the park.

The visitor center bathrooms will be available for use before the hike, but the museum will be closed to visitors after the hike begins and the visitor center gate will be closed and locked at 9 p.m.

There is a $4 fee for those joining the hike, which is limited to 25 participants.

Montana residents can enter the park for free, while the regular fee of $8 applies for nonresident vehicles.

For information on upcoming events or to register for the hike call the park at 406-866-2217 or check out the park’s Facebook page.

The park is 3.5 miles north of Ulm, just off Interstate 15 at exit 270.
