Clear your stash craft challenge

If you’ve got an absurd amount of yarn stashed away in bins under your bed, in closets or just in baskets, we have the winter challenge for you.

Jenn meant to launch this project last winter but ran out of time and was inspired by a national challenge she noticed a month or so ago.

Here’s the challenge:

If you’re a knitter or crocheter, use up old, mismatched or odds and ends of yarn to make scarves, hats, blankets and gloves or mittens.

12 Days of Great Falls Cheer [2023]

Drop them at Speaking Socially beginning Nov. 4 and Jenn will distribute the items to first responders who will have them available in their vehicles for anyone in need during the winter months.

Speaking Socially is located at 509 1st Ave. N. They’ll also be accepting toy donations for kids for their annual Project Noel, which is set for Dec. 7.

If we have enough donations, the next batch will go to the Benefis and the Great Falls Clinic for their emergency rooms.

After that, items will be distributed to Great Falls Public Schools and local nonprofits.

Jenn will accept items through the cold months, let’s say February to ensure as many items get to those in need as possible during the winter.

If you don’t have a stash, but want to participate, visit our local yarn shops Yarn and Honey and The Farmer’s Daughter Fibers.

FDF has a learn to crochet class coming up on Nov. 13 and watch for offerings related to the project.

Jenn is going to try to dust off her knitting needles, but will also make a basket of yarn available at Speaking Socially (after elections) for those who want to help her clear her absurd yarn stash.
