The city planning board failed to reach a quorum, for the eighth time this year, forcing their Tuesday meeting to be canceled.

Staff is working to scheduled a special meeting for Oct. 17 to consider the two projects that were on Tuesday’s agenda.

Those projects included the proposed 12-unit hotel for Great Falls Clinic patients and their families, and a planned unit development zoning for the next West Ridge phase of townhouses and single family homes on the northern edge of town.

Earlier this summer, staff sent a memo to planning board members regarding the quorum issues and the board had a lengthy discussion about their attendance.

On Tuesday, only four members of the 9-member board showed up and after 15 minutes, the meeting was cancelled.

While waiting, representatives of the projects mentioned in side chatter that it was a waste of people’s time to cancel and rescheduled planning board meetings.

The next regular meeting is scheduled for Oct. 10, but already had a full agenda. Oct. 17 is also a City Commission meeting day. Planning board meetings are always the second and fourth Tuesday at 3 p.m., outside of extenuating circumstances.

Staff typically polls all advisory board members before a meeting to ensure there will be a quorum. On Tuesday, they expected five members, which would have constituted a quorum, but only four showed up.
