City seeking applicants for library, historic preservation boards

The city is seeking applicants for the library board and the Historic Preservation Advisory Commission.

Citizen interest forms are available at the city manager’s office in Room 201 of the Civic Center, by calling 406-455-8450; or may be downloaded online.

Library Board

There is currently an opening for a five-year term through June 30, 2029.

Applicants must be city residents and the City Commission will review applicants.

The library board consists of five members who advise, recommend and advocate for the library.

The board supports the work of the library and provides leadership to the library director as well as community leadership regarding library services and resources.

Meetings are held on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 4:30 p.m.

Historic Preservation Advisory Commission

The city is seeking citizens to serve on the Historic Preservation Advisory Commission to fill three-year terms through April 30, 2027.

There are two terms set to expire at the end of April.

HPAC consists of nine members serving three-year terms: four appointed by the City Commission, four appointed by the County Commission, and a ninth member with professional architectural expertise is chosen by a simple majority of the other eight members.

HPAC advises Cascade County, the City of Great Falls and the Business Improvement District.

Applicants should have expertise/qualifications in the following areas: history, planning, archaeology, architecture, architectural history, historic archaeology or other history preservation-related disciplines such as cultural geography or cultural anthropology.

Ownership of property listed on the National Register of Historic Places may also qualify a person to serve on this commission.

Meetings are scheduled the second Wednesday of each month at noon.
