Great Falls man charged for grooming a child for sex offenses

Jonathan Brogen, 27, has been charged with a felony count of grooming a child for sexual offense.

The court issued an arrest warrant for him in mid-August on the charge.

He was arrested Sept. 12 and is being held in the Cascade County Adult Detention Center on a $500,000 bond.

In December 2025, a Great Falls Police Department detective investigated a cybertip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in which Google flagged 15 uploaded videos as possible child sexual abuse material, or CSAM.

The videos were uploaded between Feb. 18 and Aug. 30, 2025 and were associated with Brogen.

The detective found a large volume of child pornography linked to Brogen’s Google Drive and a substantial amount of images and videos, both CSAM and non-CSAM, centered on one young female with the name Poppy, according to court documents.

“Most of the videos and images show the same bedroom, adorned with stuffed animals and a black tapestry showing a tree,” according to court documents.

Over seven pages of the initial charging document, law enforcement details 60 image and video files of CSAM involving Poppy.

The detective also found 29 files involving Polly that aren’t CSAM but further establish the connection between her and Brogen.

One of those is a 12-second video showing Poppy wearing onesie-type pajamas with a caption, “just to put this into perspective though, you’re asking an underage girl who is comfy in her unicorn pjs to undress and do bad things…so gross, according to court documents.

Another two-minute, 45 second video shows Poppy clothed, saying, “I hope you slept well, I can’t wait for later today, till both of us are free, maybe we could talk? I miss your voice. I can’t wait to be good for you tonight, since you don’t really mind if I get into trouble, that makes it a little bit better. Try my best to make you feel good. Even though you are, you know, a pedophile, I don’t care. Because you’re still my daddy. So I guess that’s all that matters, right?”

The detective also found a photo of Poppy’s leg with “J” cut into her skin and bleeding, as well as several video chats between Poppy and Brogen.

The detective executed a search warrant on Poppy’s Snapchat account, which returned thousands of messages and videos between her and Brogen.

The detective determined that Poppy is a minor living in Ohio and that her Snapchat relationship with Brogen began on July 1, 2025.

According to court documents, Brogen learned that Poppy was a minor and “despite knowing this, continues to manipulate her into engaging in sexual conduct, actual or simulated. For example, in many of the messages, [Brogen] directs [Poppy] to perform specific sexual acts and record them. These acts include exposing herself at school, performing in nude photoshoots, masturbating in public. He requests that she cuts into her body, including engraving his initials into her leg. [Poppy] documented these acts and sent them to [Brogen]. He sent her a lot of messages indicating his desire to buy her gifts and send her money. He indicates that he intends to marry [Poppy] when she reaches 18 years old. He often exhibits his desire to get [Poppy] to move to Montana to be with him,” according to court documents.

Many of the videos and messages show Brogen was in Great Falls at the time of the offense, sending screenshots of the weather; in one video chat, Brogen can be seen outside a downtown sandwich shop where detectives recognized the murals on the neighboring office building, according to court documents.
